Vivo X50 smartphone review with key features

On June 1, Vivo presented the X50 line of flagship smartphones, consisting of 3 models. Interestingly, there is no mention of the X series on the manufacturer's official website yet. According to forecasts, new gadgets can become truly unique, thanks to the built-in stabilizer - this technology is used for the first time in the production of mobile devices.

Main characteristics

Design

The novelty turned out to be really beautiful. The design, of course, cannot be called outstanding, but the thin, graceful body made of glass, the unusual design of the camera on the rear panel attracts. The gadget is available in 3 colors - blue, gray and pink. The camera module rises from the base by only 1 mm, the frame color is black.
According to the manufacturer, the body material is durable plexiglass (which one is not specified), a thin metal frame - in the body color, does not stand out.

All buttons are located on the right side of the case (power on, volume control). The left side is "clean", without elements. At the bottom there is a slot for SIM cards and a connector for a charger.

AMOLED shows itself perfectly in the sun - it will not be very comfortable to play, but you can easily see the information on the display, since the display remains bright and does not fade.

The only problem is fading, as a rule, with the active use of blue and white colors. The solution is simple - you should not set the brightness to maximum in the settings, but for the design, install themes in black shades.

OS and interface

The company originally planned to delay rolling out updates to its devices due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it looks like the plans were scrapped and the Vivo X50 came out with Funtouch 10.5 on the latest Android platform.

Among the innovations are laconic icons that adapt to the color design of the display (icons can also be selected and customized), which greatly simplifies the work with the device.

In general, there are a lot of useful features for game lovers. Countdown function - a pop-up window on the display will allow you to start the timer and go about your business without the risk of missing another battle. An optical fingerprint sensor is responsible for the security of user data. Whether it works correctly and how long it takes to identify the owner is not yet known.

Sound

It looks like the manufacturer has thrown all efforts to improve the performance of the camera. The sound is not so rosy. The new Vivo X50 has lost its stereo speakers (as in the Iqoo Neo3 and Iqoo Z1 models). The gadget has one speaker at the bottom of the case - it is enough for watching movies, but not for listening to music. Yes, it's loud, but you won't be able to hear a lot of high notes, middle, low and bass - it will do only for background music during training.

Another drawback is the lack of a headphone jack. You will have to buy them separately. The cost is $ 70. Let's hope that Vivo has listened to users' opinions and fixed the shortcomings of the previous version - sound quality, noise suppression.

Of the advantages - the function of recording three-dimensional sound. Whether it will be useful in the absence of stereo speakers is another question.

Camera specifications

Vivo's press release raises more questions than answers. Will the stabilization technology be used in all devices of the line, or only in premium versions. Searches in the public domain also did not bring much clarity.
The only thing that can be said about Vivo X50, even in the basic version, has excellent photo-video performance. The camera consists of 4 sensors. The main one - at 48 megapixels, allows you to take clear pictures in the dark and in poor lighting. The optical image stabilization function allows you to shoot video with a smooth picture (without jumps and sudden jerking) even in the maximum allowed format.

The second module is an 8 megapixel wide-angle camera (viewing angle 120 degrees). The third is a 13-megapixel TV camera with 2x optical zoom.The fourth is a module for 5 megapixel macro photography with focusing on the subject from a distance of only 1.5 cm. The indicator is, of course, unique.
The 13 megapixel front camera is located at the top of the display (a small notch, which by the way does not annoy and does not interfere with the view). The quality of the pictures is excellent - even in low light. You can also shoot video on the front camera.

Updated time-lapse functions let you manually select the time range. It is also possible to create a short video with the simultaneous imposition of an audio track on the image, plus editing and special effects. True, the duration of the video should not exceed 60 seconds. All these functions, by the way, are more likely to be the merit of the application updates.

Work offline

The battery capacity is 4200 mAh, so it is difficult to call the device a long-liver. For example, the manufacturer himself indicates that the smartphone will last no more than 5 hours in video viewing mode. If you use the phone only for calls, one charge will be enough for the whole day.

Additional functions

Nothing new here. Built-in satellite navigation system with GLONASS, GALLILEO support. Proximity sensors, periscope, accelerometer. Proximity function - protection against accidental pressing of buttons on the display during a telephone conversation. Also included is a compass. Whether such a function is useful to residents of megalopolises or not is unknown, but nevertheless the function is useful.

Where can I buy

In May of this year, the company opened an official store vivo.aliexpress.ru, but there are no X-series gadgets on sale yet. On the trading floor itself, X50Pro devices are offered, but in the stores of other sellers. Attempts to find Vivo X50 on Russian-language resources gave nothing. The sections have a description, without specifying the price with the status "pending".

By the way, it was also not possible to find information about the new product on the official website of the manufacturer, although they say that the pre-order for the Vivo X50 in China is already open. There is also information that gadgets have already appeared on the free sale and offline, but again only in China.

Vivo X50 turned out to be functional, smart and beautiful. But there are no extraordinary features. A sort of average for pretty decent money. Yes, the technical performance of the camera has been improved, but in return the gadget has lost its stereo speakers and a headphone jack. Announced TWS Neo - wireless earbuds will cost an additional $ 70. High quality sound is promised, plus low latency, which will allow you to use the device for games.

So, if you like games, beautiful photos, then Vivo X50 definitely deserves attention. For music lovers or users with high demands on sound quality, it is better to look for something else. In general, the gadget is decent, the only thing that confuses is the high cost. Sales start at $ 393 (conversion to rubles is meaningless due to exchange rate fluctuations). Plus the cost of headphones, although it is possible that the company will develop a bonus program to increase demand.
