One of these will be discussed in today's review.

The ASUS ZenFone M1 device can be safely called a tablet phone. It has a large screen, powerful performance and an attractive design. Let's look at it from all sides, look inside and find out whether the gadget is as good as the manufacturer writes about the ward. The announcement of going on sale was in December 2017, buyers have already managed to get acquainted with the model and get a portion of impressions.

Appearance

The Asus M1 is an attractive and budget-friendly phablet. The body is made of smooth metal, which is a pleasure to touch. The manufacturer offers three colors - wave black, azure silver, sunny gold.

The shape of the gadget is rectangular with rounded edges, the aspect ratio is 18: 9. The diagonal is 5.7 inches, which is very much in demand in modern times - it is easier for people to buy one smartphone than another tablet in the bargain. The dimensions are pleasing, 152.6 x 73 x 8.8 mm, and the weight is only 160 grams.

Above the screen are a speech speaker, a selfie camera with a flash, and sensors. At the bottom there is a charging input and two speakers. On the right side, we found a place for volume control buttons, an on / off key.

The rear panel contains a dual camera module and flash on the left and a fingerprint scanner just below the center. The Asus logo is located at the bottom of the lid. A 3.5 mm audio input with a second microphone is located on the top.

Tray for SIM cards and memory card is located on the left edge. To open it, you need to press with a sharp needle or toothpick into a special hole next to the compartment, like in an iPhone. The nano-SIM slots are located next to each other, and the Micro-SD slots below them.

The smartphone is sold in a branded Asus box and includes the device itself in a protective film, documentation, an OTG cable, a 90 cm USB cable, and a 2A power adapter. The warranty period is regulated by 1 year.

Ergonomic

Although the smartphone is large, it lies firmly in the hand, does not fall out and does not outweigh. Using a case further minimizes the risk of sudden drops and scratches on the case. Note the convenient volume keys, pressed easily with a characteristic click. They are oblong in shape and represent two autonomous elements.

No one can beat Apple with their handy fingerprint scanner, but overall the sensor is in a good spot. Asus did not reinvent the wheel and found a place for it, like all other manufacturers - on the back panel. In order to use the scanner, in any case, you have to turn the smartphone over in your hand.

In general, the phone does not look huge, on the contrary, due to the elaborated details, thin body, small frame, the gadget looks smaller than its rivals of the same size.

Smartphone specifications

The gadget continues the Asus ZenFone line, looks very similar to the 3 Zoom and 4 Max, but the filling differs in favor of the newcomer.

Screen

If you look at the frame, you can see how thin it is compared to a regular smartphone. The dimensions of the ZB570TL are identical to the 5.2-inch gadget. The IPS display with a high resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels allows you to see the smallest details in the photo without distortion. 16M colors and 424 PPI pixel density contribute to bright images. The multi-touch is configured for 5 simultaneous touches, so when you zoom in on a photo, you can safely use all your fingers. The phone works without hang-ups, responds quickly to all pressing on the sensor.

Camera

The manufacturer has endowed the ward with two rear cameras, which switch between themselves by instantly moving the slider in the settings. They are located in one module on the rear panel with a 1 mm projection.

Main

Has a characteristic of 16 MP, shoots in low light conditions, is sensitive to light. The pictures come out juicy and bright. Autofocusing is super fast and comparable to its "SLR" counterparts - it is 0.03 seconds. Blurring is excluded, even if the model decided to dance in the frame.

Additional

Designed for capturing panoramic views and large numbers of people. All this allows you to crank the viewing angle of 120 degrees. When using a smartphone, you can take pictures of 2 times more people or space, Asus has increased the field of view by 200%. This "trick" helps out when there are only a couple of steps from the device to the people in the frame. The photo will end up with a visual expansion effect. Frontal

An 8 MP camera is, of course, not 13 MP, as in the same BQ 6016 L, but the quality of the gadget is no worse. You can take a selfie and communicate with family members via video link. The image enhancement function evens out the skin, gives it a natural tone, corrects the eyes and face in general, and adds a natural glow. As users note, selfies are not always successful - low detail and insufficient sharpness occasionally skip.

Video recording is provided by the Mali-T860 MP2 video processor, which allows you to make 30 frames per second. The colors are rich, the details are reproduced exactly. The maximum video quality resolution is 1920 × 1080. Noise and artifacts are sometimes visible. This happens due to too fast focus, which is trying to work at an accelerated pace.

How to photograph

The built-in LED flash diffuses soft light without distorting skin color. To look even better, it's worth turning on the enhancement feature. Then the result will be the following:

Pro mode lets you manually adjust focus, white balance, and exposure. On the front, you can blur the background. The function is not particularly useful and does not compete in any way with DSLRs. The best photos come out in bright daylight; in dark conditions, the camera cannot cope with stretching the white balance.

Communications

The gadget supports any cellular communication standards - 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, GSM. On LTE, the data transfer rate will be approximately 173 Mbps for download and 58 Mbps for transmission. There are GPS, AGPS, GLONASS. Geolocation is determined from 20 satellites with an accuracy of 3 meters.

The Wi-Fi module is installed in the 802.11n version, and wireless Internet distribution over a hot spot is also available. Bluetooth 4.0 is reliable and fast. In principle, you will not surprise with this function now, users have long switched to data transfer in messengers or e-mail.

SIMs are capable of working in alternating mode. While there is a conversation on one SIM card, the second is unavailable. The manufacturer has established a separation of the possibilities of using the Internet: 1 SIM card is available in 3G, the second - 4G.

NFC is absent, perhaps because the function is not in high demand in the world, but the smartphone is equipped with OTG technology. The user can connect other computer equipment to the phone - a mouse, keyboard, USB flash drive.

Software

The smartphone has an operating system based on Android version 7.0 Nougat with a proprietary ZenUI interface. Convenient and familiar to users. Any items are easily found in the menu, the view is intuitive.

To unlock Asus came up with something interesting: in addition to standard methods (pattern, pin code), fingerprint and face scanning are available. The Face Scanner is fast, with a loading bar visible on the screen. The function saves in the cold, when the fingers are frozen, the print cannot be read, and you don't want to take off the mittens once again.

Users can use a flashlight and other delights of a smartphone - a dictaphone, an audio player. Music formats WAV, MP3, WMA, AAC are supported. The sound quality is good - all frequencies are present, the timbre is not distorted, but clean and pleasant.

From the point of view of official data, the promises are as follows: up to 13 hours of video playback, up to 21 hours of using the Internet, up to 26 hours of talking and flying on 3G, up to 26 days in standby mode and surfing on LTE. The numbers are beautiful, users confirm the high durability of the battery.

The gadget has a fast charging function, it turns on automatically after connecting to the input of the original cable. Asus promises that up to 100% of the M1 will be filled with energy in 3 hours. In life, a full charge comes after 2 hours and 40 minutes. If there is only a quarter of an hour, this amount will be enough for 3 hours of smartphone operation.

If the charge is about to run out and the user is afraid of turning off the device, it is worth considering the power saving mode. It will extend the life of the assistant up to 67 hours on standby.The manufacturer Asus warns buyers that boost charging only works when interacting with the original accessory.

The battery is not only powerful, it can last up to 2 times longer, just like famous batteries. Only M1 uses a whole range of PowerMaster technologies, which includes the following types of protection:

At the start of sales in December 2017, the recommended price was set at 16,990-17,990 rubles. In 2019, there was a decrease in cost, the average price is 9,000 rubles. As users note in reviews, for 9-10 thousand rubles a smartphone is an excellent find, but a large amount should be given for other models.

Games do not hang, the sound is at a decent level with all frequencies, and the most convenient thing is that the memory card is located separately from the SIM, i.e. no need to try to pick out Micro-SD from under the SIM card. The smartphone is suitable for people with an amount within 10,000 rubles and a desire to get a standard set of characteristics from a well-known brand.
