Nokia 7.2 smartphone - pros and cons

In early autumn 2019, the world's leading manufacturers presented many new smartphone models. One of these was the Nokia 7.2, the acquaintance with which became possible thanks to the exhibition in Berlin on September 5 this year. On it, Nokia presented its new items, including the older model of the series, which will be discussed in this article.

Features of external design

The device has an original and modern appearance. The front panel is a practically bezel-less version: its main area is occupied by the screen, a little space is left in the lower part for the beard with the company logo, in the upper part for the teardrop-shaped cutout with the front camera.

The back iridescent panel attracts attention with a round block (the location of the triple rear camera) and the Zeiss lettering. A fingerprint sensor is located under the camera block.
The lower end surface of the device is equipped with a Type-C connector, a microphone and a speaker. At the top there is a 3.5 audio output for headphones. On the left there are two SIM card slots, as well as the Google Assistant launch key. On the right is a volume rocker and a lock key.
Both the front and back surfaces are protected by hardened Gorilla Glass 3. They are connected by a composite frame, which, according to the manufacturer, is twice as light as aluminum and twice as strong as polycarbonate.
Taking into account their own taste preferences, the user can choose one of the color options from the available proposals:

• black (coal - charcoal);
• silver (ice - ice);
• turquoise (cyan green).

An electronic device weighing 180 g has the following dimensions:

• height - 159.9 mm;
• width - 75.2 mm;
• thickness - 8.3 mm.

Specifications

Display

The device is equipped with a touch screen with a diagonal of 6.3 inches, which is characterized by a resolution of 2280 × 1080 pixels. This resolution (Full HD +), taking into account the display density of 400 ppi, creates an excellent level of color reproduction and detail: the picture is juicy, does not go into a red or green tint. In addition to a good level of color rendering, IPS technology has viewing angles that are comfortable for perception (the picture starts to fade only at the most acute angles).

It should be noted that the Pure Display technology was used in the model, designed to adapt the display to the distribution of shades, improve contrast and pull up standard video in SDR to HDR quality.
As a percentage of the total surface area, the display accounts for 82.4%. The aspect ratio of 19 to 9 corresponds to the proportions that are inherent in the vast majority of modern smartphone models.Such an indicator will allow the owner to organize comfortable viewing of video materials, text files, graphic documents, and to embody the needs of mobile gamers.

Platform

Management is entrusted to Android 9 (рie), which is current this year. Instead of a shell, the model has a pure Android. The brand is actively promoting the assistant "Google Assistant", which has found application in the considered Nokia 7.2.
The life of the smartphone is regulated by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, which is produced using a 14 nanometer technological process. The same processor was used in the Redmi Note 7, which became a hit in 2019. On this fact, many users make claims: the new product uses a processor that is not the newest modification, despite the fact that the cost of the device exceeds the average budget indicator (while the same Redmi Note 7 has a price one and a half to two times lower than the newcomer from Nokia) ...

Memory

The volumes of operational and built-in data storage are presented in two variations:
RAM - 4/6 GB;
ROM - 64/128 GB.

It is possible to increase internal memory resources via microSD: the device has a tray for a memory card. In this case, however, you will have to abandon the second SIM card. The maximum possible amount of information that can be placed on an external source is 512 GB.

Battery

The characterization of the power system is unimpressive. The non-removable lithium polymer battery has a capacity of only 3500 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the energy efficient processor will allow the smartphone to work for up to two days without recharging. In any case, such an indicator of autonomy is able to ensure the operation of the phone from one charge from morning to evening with its active use: in the case of making phone calls, communicating on Skype, communicating by e-mail, communicating on social networks, creating amateur pictures and videos. And for avid moviegoers who prefer to spend their free time watching a long movie, or mobile gamers who are not averse to getting carried away with active games at their leisure, additional charge recovery may be needed. Unfortunately, this will not work very quickly, since the fast charging function is not provided.

Cameras

The rear camera, complete with LED flash, has three modules:

• main;
• wide-angle;
• auxiliary.

The main sensor is equipped with a sensor with a resolution of 48 megapixels with an aperture of f / 1.8. The 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor received optics with f / 2.2 and viewing angles up to 118 °. The auxiliary camera, which implements the portrait mode, is represented by a sensor with a resolution of 5 megapixels. Algorithms are provided that improve the quality of shooting in adverse conditions. In the presence of poor lighting, the user of the device can use the night mode. Portrait mode shots are created using one of the bokeh styles (smooth, swirl, modern). The device implements panoramic shooting, provides operation in HDR mode. The gadget records video in 2160p @ 30fps, 1080p @ 30fps formats.

The front camera features quad bayer technology, which is designed to improve the quality of selfies in low light.

The device received one sensor with a resolution of 20 megapixels with an aperture of f / 2.2, is equipped with LED flash and zeiss optics, implements panorama shooting, supports high dynamic range technology, and records video in 1080p @ 30fps.

Network and interfaces

The telephone device is equipped with a double stand that can be used for two nano-SIM cards, or a single SIM card and memory card.

The device implements a connection to dual-band Wi-Fi (standard 802.11 b / g / n / ac). Bluetooth 5 version will help to transmit information at short distances. You can get information about the place of deployment on planet Earth through satellite navigation (navigator A-GPS, Glonass, GALILEO).

The device has a radio station that catches FM waves.

The smartphone is equipped with USB version 2, Type C 1.0.

Adherents of contactless payments will find the advantage of having an NFC chip.

Sound

The device implements a speakerphone mode, and also provides active noise cancellation.
There is an audio jack - a 3.5 mm mini-jack for connecting headphones.

Additional features

The security of the information placed on the phone can be realized thanks to the fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor located on the back panel, when it touches the surface of the skin, will instantly react by unlocking the display or will not allow the device to be used.

The arsenal of surveillance equipment includes a gyroscope and an accelerometer that are standard for modern electronic devices: the first sensor determines the position of the smartphone in space from the perspective of three-dimensionality, and the second one allows you to change the direction of acceleration, follows the turns, which is of particular importance for fans of active gaming processes.

The presence of a proximity sensor is also characteristic, which automatically locks the display when the phone approaches the user's auricle: when fixing an object, the sensor does not allow accidental pressing by the ear or cheek.

The cost

The model is expected to go on sale at the end of September this year. According to available information, a product with RAM 4 GB / ROM 64 GB will cost 300 euros.

Advantages and disadvantages

Taking into account the opinions of potential users and the presented characteristics, the following pros and cons of the model can be noted.

• excellent cameras with ZEISS optics;
• stylish exterior and build quality;
• work on pure Android;
• comfortable for viewing text and video screen, support for НD R 10 format;
• internal memory sufficient to meet the user's immediate needs, the ability to expand the available resources through a memory card;
• the presence of an NFC module.

• a mediocre battery life indicator by modern standards;
• the use of a processor that is inferior to the latest models in terms of speed;
• lack of fast charging.

Review of Nokia 7.2 allows you to create an initial opinion about the new product. The main features of the model are a 3-lens rear camera with a wide-angle lens and Zeiss optics, regular android updates and premium build quality. There are mixed opinions about the technical characteristics and capabilities on the network: some criticize the hardware, others prioritize the quality of materials and pure Android.
