The American company Energizer is engaged in the creation of batteries - batteries, accumulators, chargers, flashlights. However, recently, the manufacturer began to produce smartphones, which, due to the lack of their own production and suitable capacities, are assembled in China. In this article, we will review the Energizer Ultimate U620S and U630S Pop smartphones, find out their technical characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, and also find out which model is better to buy for your needs.

Technical features and device description

Note that the Energizer smartphones - the heroes of our review are still new products, exist only in the prototype format and will not appear on the market for another six months. In this regard, there are practically no photos, blogger reviews and reviews on the Web. Significantly more information will emerge when Energizer debuts at the largest mobile industry show, Mobile World Congress, which kicks off on February 25th.

In addition to the U620S and U630S Pop, the manufacturer is unveiling 26 new models, with flagship features such as pop-up cameras, a massive 18,000mAh battery and a foldable display. The models will belong to one of four lines - Power Max and Energy - with large capacity batteries, the top Ultimate with a pop-up camera, and with increased protection - Hardcase.

Currently, we only have images of future devices, unfortunately, very similar, with a front view, not the best quality, as well as rather detailed technical specifications.

Although there is not yet much information on the specifications of the phones, many of the features of this “premium” line have already been announced by the manufacturer.

So, it is reliably known that both smartphones will run on Mediatek Helio P70 and P22 processors, respectively. Both have dual cameras that automatically slide out of the body: a 16 Mpix main camera with a 2 Mpix depth sensor. The U620S Pop has a triple camera on the back (16MP, 5MP and 2MP) with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It will be released in July, while the second model will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, and will go on sale in June.

The U620S device will have a large screen with a diagonal of 6.2 inches, the second device, 630, will have a slightly larger screen - 6.3 inches. How the screen will show itself, for example, in the sun, what the viewing angles will be, how autofocus will work, and what the sharpness of the photo will be is still difficult to say.

The battery capacity is approximately the same - 3200 mA / h for the U620S versus 3500 mA / h for the U630S.

Energizer Ultimate U620S has a fingerprint sensor on the side of the smartphone, Energizer Ultimate U630S has a fingerprint scanner on the back cover.

Unlocking via Face-Unlock is not announced, but it may appear in other models.

Quite good characteristics of the cameras are declared, but how the devices will behave in practice is not yet clear. Accordingly, while there is no way to see an example of a photo taken during the day, or, even more so, to find out how each device takes pictures at night.

On the whole, we can say that in technical terms, we did not find any special, significant differences.

Where to buy smartphones

Currently, new items are not yet sold either in Russia or in the world. The expected release date is set for summer 2019.

However, when smartphones are on sale, all current offers and prices will be available on the Yandex.Market service.

What the average price will be is not yet known. Previously, the company produced quite budget models. So, the Energizer ENERGY S500E smartphone can be purchased for 10 thousand rubles.

The new models will certainly have characteristics of a different level, judging by the information that we have, and are declared as flagship and premium. But prices, presumably, will still remain affordable.

Device appearance

All we can say for now is that smartphones will be impressive enough to hardly be called elegant. So, the thickness of the U630S Pop is 9.6 mm, and its brother is as much as 10.3 mm.

For comparison, let's take the popular models of the past year from the best manufacturers, such as Apple iPhone XS - its thickness was 7.7 mm, and Samsung Galaxy S9 - it is 8.5 mm thick.

But we can definitely agree on the color scheme. So, the U620S can be purchased in black, red and green glossy colors. Unfortunately, the manufacturer decided to sell the phone U630S Pop only in black.

Features of smartphones

So, despite the lack of feedback and reviews from both bloggers and ordinary users, we will try to highlight, presumably, the strengths and weaknesses of two devices from the Energizer Ultimate series.

• Thanks to a powerful modern eight-core processor, smartphones are perfect for active games;
• Judging by the characteristics, the smartphone will be productive and smart;
• Convenient screens with diagonals over 6 inches make the devices suitable for watching movies and YouTube videos, for example;
• Most likely, the devices will be inexpensive, but as they say, this is not certain;
• High autonomy is expected due to powerful rechargeable batteries of more than 3000 mAh;
• If the parameters of the cameras correspond to the stated ones, those who like to take pictures with a smartphone will be really satisfied - the images should be sharper and clearer, even when shooting objects in motion, the bokeh effect should also be present;
• Not a bad design - the phones are frameless, which means they will keep up with the times;
• Thanks to the Android 9.0 operating system out of the box, the device interface promises to be quite pleasant;
• Charging should be done quickly enough, as there is wireless charging technology;
• A reliable manufacturer, not just another “Chinese miracle”.

• The need to wait until summer to buy a device;
• Insufficient amount of information about smartphones on the Internet;
• The price category of the devices is unknown;
• The cameras do not have a built-in filter system;
• Slightly clumsy appearance (considering thickness data).

Let's summarize. As for the brand itself, I want to believe that Energizer smartphones will not be inferior in popularity to the batteries they produce, which have been used by people around the world for decades.

I would like to note that these are not just Chinese smartphones, despite the fact that the assembly is carried out in China. Behind them is an American brand with a huge history, which, for sure, will delight users with high-quality and affordable devices. But while the popularity of the Energizer models is not high, so it will be possible to draw full conclusions about the new line of smartphones only based on the results of the Mobile World Congress.
